Ticketing
How can I purchase a single or return ticket?
Ticket Vending Machines are located at every stop. They accept coins, notes, and debit/credit cards, and also give change. €50 notes are not accepted for purchases under €30. Ticket Vending Machines also accept contactless card payments for transactions up to €50. Please note that tickets may not be purchased onboard the trams. You must have a valid ticket at all times on board the tram.
What do I do when issued a refund ticket?
You’ve been issued a refund ticket from our Ticket Vending Machine instead of correct change; this is usually due to that machine running out of coins. If this happens you have two options, you can go to the depot at the Red Cow or Sandyford Stops between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and we can issue you with your refund or you can post this ticket in to our address (found in the contact us section) along with your name and address so we know where to send it back to.
If you have any other queries regarding refunds please contact TFI Customer Service on 0818 294 015
What is the TFI 90 Minute Fare and how does it work on Luas?
TFI 90 Minute Fare will apply to most journeys paid for with TFI Leap Card, including multi-mode or Luas multi-line journeys started within 90 minutes of the first Tap-on. The Short Fare will apply to selected Luas journeys of up to approximately 3 kilometers. If your journey is on Luas after a journey on another mode, Tap-on at the Luas Stop before getting on Luas and Tap-off after you get off Luas.
When you are availing of the TFI 90 Minute Fare on your Leap Card, you must always Tap-on using a Validator on the platform before boarding Luas and Tap-off when leaving Luas. This will ensure you have a valid ticket for your journey and you won’t be at risk of receiving a Luas Standard Fare Notice for €100. It will also ensure you get the best value for your journey.
Will my travel pass cover my fare for travelling on the Luas?
Yes. If you are a holder of a PSC Free Travel pass (smart pass for Northern Irish holders), you can free travel on Luas. We ask that you have your pass on your person at all times as tickets are regularly checked on board trams and you will need to present IT if requested. If your pass states that it is a companion pass, it is ok for your companion to travel freely with you on your journey. If you have any other questions please contact TFI Customer Service.
What happens if I’m making a return journey using TFI Leap Card and I Tap-on before getting on Luas for my outward journey, forget to Tap-off when I finish my outward journey and Tap-on before my return journey?
If you are making a return trip using TFI Leap Card on one Luas Line and you Tap-on before you get on Luas for your outward journey and forget to Tap-off, your TFI Leap Card will still be Tapped-on for 120 mins from the time you Tap-on at the Luas Stop where you started your journey. If you start the return part of your journey and try to Tap-on within 120 mins of the time you Tapped-on for your outward journey, you will actually be Tapping-off and you will not have a valid ticket for travel and you may be issued a Standard Fare Notice for €100. You must always ensure that you Tap-on before getting on Luas using a Luas Validator at the Stop and Tap-off after getting off Luas for each trip.
Always check the Validator screen and listen for the Validator tone to confirm you have Tapped-on or off correctly.
If you are unsure whether your TFI Leap Card is Tapped-on or off, you can check this using a Ticket Machine at any Luas Stop. Do not use a Validator to check the status of your TFI Leap Card as this may result in your card being Tapped-on or off, meaning you may not have a valid ticket for travel or you being charged. Luas does not issue refunds for incorrect use of TFI Leap Card.
Can I make group orders?
Luas can offer you the option of purchasing group tickets. We can sell 1 day flexi and return fares for groups of 20 people or more. Orders must be received at least 5 days before date of travel. Payment methods are debit/credit card, cheque or postal order.
Please call TFI Customer Service on 0818 294 015 for further information.

What do I do if I need assistance on board the tram or at the Stop?
If you require assistance there are a number of ways to get in contact with a member of Luas staff. This can be done by doing any of the following:

- Use the Emergency Brake Lever : There is an emergency brake lever located at every door which will cause the tram to stop in the event of an emergency. False activation of the emergency brake will result in a fine.
- Use the SOS Button : There is a SOS button at each Stop. Press the large Red button once and this will connect you to the control room, where you can speak with someone to request assistance. The CCTV system at the Stop means the staff can see who has pressed the button.
- Use the Luas Security Text Service : Report anti-social behaviour to us discreetly using Whatsapp, SMS or our passenger App. Include the tram number and your location with a brief statement about the behaviour that you see. See https://www.luas.ie/report-anti-social-behaviour-on-luas/ for more info on the Luas Security reporting Service.
Please note there is CCTV on board the tram and at the stop.
